FLORES RARAS

When we hear the word 'model' our minds often think about tall, skinny girls walking a long catwalk. Well, it is time to change our perspectives because these three beautiful girls and their unique beauty are taking the fashion world by storm. Sheila, 13 and twins Lara and Mara Bawar, 11 are sisters from Brazil and been recognised by Swiss photographer Vinicius Terranova; Who worked together with the girls on a personal project and since showed us how genuinely alluring diversity can be. You might be wondering what is so special about these young ladies? Well, twins Lara and Mara have Albinism, explained by Mayo Clinic as a group of inherited disorders that are characterised by little or no production of the pigment melanin. The type and amount of melanin your body produces, determines the colour of your skin, hair and eyes. Most people with albinism are sensitive to sun exposure and are at increased risk of developing skin cancer. Despite this, the twins embrace their beauty and do not let their albinism it get in the way of their lives.

We like to see our beauty being valued by its unique aspects
— Sheila Bawar

Terranova photographed the girls in a project now known as Flores Raras which in Spanish means 'Rare Flowers'  and the Bawar sisters have since developed a new found fame which has led them to be signed to model for multiple labels such as Nike, Insanis and Bazaar Kids. "My art represents the beauty in diversity and both literal and symbolic extensions of empowerment" Swiss photographer Terranova says about his project on the sisters. The sisters have already hit over twenty-five thousand followers on Instagram at @lara_mara_sheila where they showcase a lot of their beautiful modelling work.
